                                                                             SYNOPSIS.

Passive fire protection is a system that attempt to contain the fire that known as “compartmentation”, slow the spread of fire for protecting the escape routes, and protecting the structural integrity to reduce collapse. This is to provide a safe environment for the occupants to clear up the building.

In supervising passive fire protection need to understand the design and fire safety concept. The supervision is involved from the start towards the end of the construction works. It requires implementation of the passive fire design, the BOMBA approval and to making it a reality by construction of the building.

Proper installation and workmanship by third party really needed to avoid defects in passive fire protection. Defects arise as building occupied post construction with amendments to the building use. The changes involve structural modifications or additional mechanical and electrical services, all that may impact the initial design of the passive fire protection for the building. Hidden features such as penetration seals, ductwork and smoke vents need to be properly inspected.

Ensuring best practice for passive fire protection is so important and not leading to common cause of defects and high maintenance during operation of the building. Prevention is better than cure approach relating to implement the fire safety design of buildings that involves supervision and ensuring the building fire safety compliance.
